The GMC recognises bodies to award primary medical qualifications and the process has started to quality assure the QMUL Malta Programme and its first undergraduate medicine programme. This takes the form of a year by year review following the first cohort to graduation. Only during the final year of the programme will the GMC be able to confirm the programme meets the GMC standards outlined in Promoting excellence: standards in medical education and training. There can be no guarantee that this will be the outcome of the quality assurance process and the QMUL Malta programme has contingency arrangements in place with the home university programme of QMUL in London, so that students enrolled in the programme who are successfully passing all assessments, will be able to complete their studies and graduate with a GMC recognised medical qualification.
